Meet the Team - Juan Calvillo
We’re back with another Meet the Team feature! This time, we’re pleased to spotlight our Tasting Room Floor Lead, Juan Calvillo! Juan is a Yountville native and unofficial Mayor of Yountville because if you mention that a local knows Juan—they’re never surprised and will likely say, “Juan knows everyone!” Now, without further ado, it’s time to meet Juan!
How long have you been with Priest Ranch?
I joined the team in the summer of 2022
What is your favorite Priest Ranch wine?
It’s a question that we all joke about “having to choose our favorite child,” but I can say that I love our Brut Rosé of Syrah or our limited-release Blanc de Blancs of Grenache Blanc equally! What is your favorite Priest Ranch memory?
My first visit to the Somerston Estate property just took my breath away. I was dazed by how beautiful it was. Of course, my first Harvest party at the Estate showed me Priest Ranch’s true colors, and I have been hooked ever since. It was the place, the people, and the wine—what more could you ask for?
What is your favorite Priest Ranch experience to host?
Bacon!! It’s unique, flavorful, and (I may be a bit biased) the best wine pairing in Napa Valley. I love how much it’s evolved, especially since Chef Dan joined the team.
What is your favorite non-Priest Ranch experience?
Thomas Keller’s Ad Hoc. The food is so fresh and tasty, and the staff is fantastic. Plus, it’s so fun that each day has a different menu, so you always expect the unexpected! And it’s one block from the tasting room, so it's an easy after-work spot to get my fix!
What is your favorite activity to do during your time off?
I love going to Lake Berryessa with my son, family, and friends, just as I did when I was young. It’s such a joy to create the memories I have from childhood for my son. I also love fishing at Lake Hennesy with my son and brothers! We usually don't catch anything, but the quality time together and fresh air are enough for me.
What do you like most about Priest Ranch?
I love working here because of the wines, the property, and my Priest Ranch family. These are the three reasons I was immediately hooked and joined the team!
Freestyle! What do you want to share about yourself/your family?
My family has lived in Yountville for a few hundred years, and I never see us leaving. It’s such a sense of pride to be a part of the history of this town and to carry on the family legacy as Yountville residents! I remember when the Priest Ranch Tasting Room and The Kitchen at Priest
Ranch were empty, old, dirty lots with weeds higher than I am tall. I cannot get over how beautiful and tasty our wines are and how very special of a place Priest Ranch is. I am thankful that I have found my forever home with Priest Ranch, the family that comes with it, and all the fantastic food from KPR!! Great Wine, Great Food, Great Company = Priest Ranch!!
